A Controversial Way To Heal Type 2 Diabetes With A High-Carbohydrate Diet

If you’re looking for alternative methods to naturally heal your type 2 diabetes for life, then there’s a highly effective method for you to try.


The actual statistics for type 2 diabetes are shocking.


Worldwide there are now 347 million people who now have diabetes. (1)


Of these same people 90% of them suffer with type 2 diabetes. (1) The World Health Organisation projects that diabetes deaths will increase by two thirds between 2008 and 2030 (1).

So what exactly is type 2 diabetes?


Type 2 diabetes or ‘adult diabetes’ as it used to be call (not so now as more and more children are now suffering from it) is a metabolic disorder where the body becomes insulin resistant and is characterized by a high level of glucose in the blood.


Put simply the hormone insulin, which is produced by the pancreas, is required to transport the sugars in our blood (that we get from what we eat) into your body’s cells where they can then be utilised.


The problem with type 2 diabetes happens when the body’s cells begin to literally ‘resist’ the insulin hormone which is transporting the sugars.


This means the sugar continues to circulate around the blood instead of going straight into the body’s cells and so the pancreas produces even more insulin in an effort to transport the sugar (glucose) out of the blood and into the cells of the body, thus stressing the pancreas.


Over a long period of time this will have a debilitating effect on the pancreas due to it being stressed by the over-production of insulin.


This will often result in less and less insulin being produced by the pancreas and so the need for more drugs/medical intervention.


The other type of diabetes (type 1) differs from type 2 in that the insulin producing cells of the pancreas are destroy by the body’s own immune system (known as autoimmune disease).


As yet, there is no known cure for the Type 1 diabetes, where patients need to take insulin via medication, though a healthy lifestyle, including diet, can certainly help you improve Type 1 diabetes.


Why do people get type 2 diabetes?


Within the mainstream medical profession, it is understood that there is no one single cause of type 2 diabetes and it is thought that a person’s chance of developing this disease is linked to several factors, which include:


  • An individual’s genetic predisposition

  • Environmental factors, such as exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals

  • Lifestyle factors, such as being overweight/obese, lack of exercise and poor diet

No doubt factors, such as genetics and the others listed do play a part in ‘deciding’ what diseases may affect you personally.


Yet people with type 2 diabetes have completely healed their condition with the help of a high-carbohydrate, plant-based diet.


So what exactly has a standard diet got to do with type 2 diabetes?


Processed food, FAT and large amounts of it!


Many health professionals outside of the mainstream now advocate around 10% fat or less to be truly healthy such as Dr John McDougall, Dr Neal Barnard, and Dr Michael Klaper to name just a few.


And the reason is because they recognize that the modern western diet as it is now has way too much fat, including saturated animal fat, which is well known for its many negative health effects.


Insulin and high fat intake do not go together well!


Consuming too much fat (both animal and plant-based fat) and over loading the body with it can lead to also sorts of health issues.


One of these is when fat begins to interfere with the process of sugar metabolism and brings on the disease we know as type 2 diabetes.


With a sustained high fat intake the cells of the body begin to struggle with the delivery of the sugars via the transport medium we know as the hormone (insulin).


With the excess fat coating the cells and thus impairing this hugely important process the disease we know as type 2 diabetes begins.


Many studies have been conducted over the years that show a high carbohydrate, low fat, plant-based diet can make a huge positive impact on the health of people who are suffering with Type 2 diabetes.


For instance, studies carried out by the University of Kentucky Medical School reported that as many as two-thirds of diabetics were able to discontinue with the use of insulin and almost all of them stopped oral medication (3).


Another study found how a low fat vegan diet improves glycemic control in individuals with Type 2 diabetes. (4)


Studies tend to use low fat vegetarian diets to carry out their testing, but you can do even better than this diet and that is switching to a low fat vegan plan with lots of raw foods on the menu.

"Fat but fit" won"t prevent type 2 diabetes risk, study finds

Maintaining a healthy weight is the single most effective way to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, no matter how much you hit the gym, new research has found.


An Australian study of more than 30,000 people has found being physically active won’t protect you from developing the disease if you are already overweight or obese.


According to the research, those who were obese – even if they were physically active and spent little time sitting – had five times the risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with people of normal weight, even those who had lower levels of physical activity and who sat more.


People who were overweight had twice the risk as people who were of normal weight and less active.


The Sax Institute said the 45 and Up Study, presented in Sydney on Tuesday, debunked the myth that being “fat and fit” would reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.


Lead researcher Thanh-Binh Nguyen from the University of Sydney said their research suggested being physically active is not as important as maintaining a healthy weight when it came to preventing diabetes and highlighted the importance of a healthy diet.


“Once you are overweight being physical active doesn’t help you that much in terms of preventing type 2 diabetes. It helps you if you can manage to reduce your weight, so it’s important to continue to be physically active and to adopt a healthy diet,” the researcher said.


Diabetes Australia says one of the most important aspects of diabetes management is to maintain a healthy body weight.


Being overweight not only increases your risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers, but it also makes your diabetes harder to manage.


Previous research has found that if you have prediabetes (impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance), losing 5 to 10% of your current body weight can prevent type 2 diabetes in up to nearly 6 out of 10 people.


This equates to losing five to 10kg for a person who weighs 100kg.


Diabetes Australia says small changes in diet, such as reducing portion sizes and swapping to low-fat dairy products, can help people to achieve a healthy body weight and manage diabetes.

Is Type 2 Diabetes Actually Reversible? (Here’s What You Need to Know)

More of us are suffering from the signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes than ever before.


In fact, type 2 diabetes is now one of the most common metabolic disorders in America – in 2014, experts estimated that 29.1 million Americans suffered from this blood sugar condition, and the number has only continued to grow (1).


What is Type 2 Diabetes?


Type 2 diabetes is a blood sugar imbalance that occurs when your body stops responding to the hormone insulin.


Normally, your body releases insulin to remove sugar from your bloodstream and transport it to your cells, where the sugar is either used for immediate energy or stored to be converted back to energy later on (2).


Imagine insulin as a delivery driver, sugar as a package and your cells as the house that receives the packages.


When sugar enters your bloodstream, your body tells insulin to “pick up” sugar from your bloodstream, and deliver it to the house it’s going to (which is your liver, muscle, or fat cells) (3).


Now, type 2 diabetes occurs when your cells become resistant, or stop responding, to insulin. It’s like the delivery man trying to drop off the packages, but no one’s home to to sign for them and bring them inside.


Why Do Your Cells Stop Responding to Sugar?


Your cells stop responding to insulin when your body is unable to keep up with the amount of sugar that enters your bloodstream. This happens when you over consume foods that are high in sugar, especially processed carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta, soda, and baked goods.


Since processed sugar contains no fiber to slow down the release of sugar into your bloodstream, it rapidly floods your body with an unnatural amount of sugar all at once. That forces your body to work overtime to produce enough insulin  to keep up with the sugar that’s entering your body.


To continue with the delivery driver analogy, when your body becomes resistant to insulin, it’s the equivalent of being delivered hundreds of the same package every single day.


Only, your house becomes so crowded with packages that you can’t possibly receive anymore. So, you stop answering the door for the delivery men (insulin), and the packages (sugar) accumulate outside your front door (your bloodstream).


Now, when sugar begins to accumulate in your bloodstream, you begin to experience serious symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Let’s take a look at what these unmistakable signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes are.

1. Frequent Urination


When your blood sugar levels rise and your cells aren’t responding, your body knows the sugar must be dealt with somehow.


So your body turns to plan B, which is to pull fluid from your cells into your bloodstream and deliver the sugar to your kidneys. And when your kidneys receive more fluid, your body produces more urine. 


2. Unquenchable Thirst


Unquenchable thirst goes hand-in-hand with frequent urination.


Additionally, your body can’t properly reabsorb water when you have an excessive amount of sugar in your blood. This results in symptoms of dehydration, such as cotton mouth and dry lips.

3. Excessive Hunger


In addition to excessive thirst, excessive hunger is another sign of type 2 diabetes. This is because your body thinks you’re starving when sugar stops entering your cells.


Now, glucose (sugar) is the fuel your brain needs to function. And since glucose must enter your cells before it can be used by your brain, your brain doesn’t receive the message that there’s already plenty of sugar in your body. Therefore, your body will send hunger signals which results in an insatiable appetite.


4. Tingling and Numbness in Your Legs and Feet


Consistently high blood sugar levels can damage the nerves throughout your body.


Nerve damage results in tingling and numbness, or a condition called diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy specifically damages the nerves in the legs and feet.


5. Bruising and Slow Wound Healing


High blood sugar levels can cause your arteries and blood vessels to stiffen.


This makes it difficult for your body to deliver oxygen and nutrients through your bloodstream that help wounds heal. Therefore, your body takes much longer to repair skin damage from wounds and bruises.


6. Blurred Vision


High blood sugar levels can cause the lense of your eye to swell, which impairs vision.


Over time, blurred vision may result in diabetic retinopathy, which is the leading cause of blindness in North America (4).


7. Sugar in Your Blood After Fasting


The most common way to test blood sugar levels is the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), which measures the amount of sugar in your blood after fasting for 8 hours.


If the OGTT test measures between 140-200 milligrams per deciliter of sugar in your blood, you’re considered pre-diabetic. Levels of 200 milligrams or higher is diagnosed as diabetic (5).

Using Splenda Linked to Type 2 Diabetes, IBS, and Cancer

More and more Americans are dieting each year, resulting in a steady increase in revenue for the diet industry.  As of 2012, Americans spent 65 billion dollars attempting to lose weight.  One of the largest markets were diet soda, with Americans spending 21.15 billion dollars. (1)

Many people understand that high sugar intake is directly connected to weight gain and other health concerns.  Many people turn to diet soda and artificial sweeteners believing that these items will benefit their health and weight loss goals.  However, the research shows that artificial sweeteners will not help you lose weight and can increase your chance to developing diabetes, cancer, and irritable bowel disease. Artificial sweetened beverages linked to increase risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes


A 2013 study showed that both sugar-sweetened beverages and artificial sweetened beverages were linked to an increase risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.  Another study examined the long-term relationship between 3,682 individuals and artificial sweetener.  The study showed that those who drink artificially sweetened beverages had a 47% higher increase in BMI than those who did not. (2)


Ground-breaking research found that artificial sweetener, Splenda, may cause diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and increase your risk of cancer.  Many people in the diabetes community were told by Splenda that it would not affect their blood sugar or metabolism.  The ingredients that make up splenda is chlorine, dextrose, and maltodextrin (a GMO corn derivative).  Splenda is made by replacing hydrogen atoms with chlorine atoms.  As a result, it is possible to get chlorine poisoning and cellular toxicity related to continual use of this product. (3)


Regular use of Splenda can result in chlorine poisoning and cellular toxicity leading to Type 2 Diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Cancer


A study published in the Diabetes Care journal found that daily consumption of diet soda is associated with 36 percent increased risk of metabolic syndrome and 67 percent greater risk of type 2 diabetes.  It was also found that artificial sweeteners or sucralose destroys the probiotics within the body and can result in digestive disorders such as IBS or leaky gut. (3)


A study completed by Xin Qin Md, PhD from New Jersey Medical School found that utilizing Splenda causes IBS, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease.  Dr. Qin made this discovery while studying the rapid increase of IBS among residents of Alberta, Canada.  It was discovered that over a 20 year time period, the rate of IBS increased by 643 percent!  It was found that sucralose is more determinate on gut bacteria than other artificial sweeteners.  It was also discovered that the body is unable to digest sucralose, having it pass through the body unaltered leaving behind damages in the intestinal walls that can result in leaky gut. (3)


Studies from Duke University confirmed this research finding that Splenda not only reduces the beneficial bacteria in the gut but also increases the bodies fecal pH.  Not only does Splenda result in digestive distress it is also linked to increase risk of cancer due to its ingredient profile. (3)


The Merk Manual and OSHA Hazardous Waste Handbook reports that chlorine is a carcinogenic meaning that regular consumption, inhalation or absorption through the skin can result in cancer.  If you are exposed to a small amount of chlorine occasionally, the body is able to eliminate the chlorine through the bowels, kidney’s and liver, but consuming it daily could increase your cancer risk. (3)


Another study published in Toxicology and Environmental Health found that with Splenda is brought to high temperatures it generates chloropropanols, which is a toxin linked to cancer.  Cooking with Splenda will increase the risk of harm to the body. (3)


If your seeking an alternative sweetener, consider natural forms of stevia.  Stevia has shown in studies to reduce feelings of hunger and calorie intake.  Researchers have also found that stevia reduces post-meal glucose levels and helps to normalize blood sugar and reduce your risk for diabetes. Increased type 2 diabetes risk linked to early or late menopause

An early or late menopause increases the risk of women developing type 2 diabetes, a study has found.


Researchers who analysed data on 124,000 women found that those whose fertility came to an end in their mid-40s or earlier were 25% more likely to become diabetic than women who reached the menopause between 46 and 55.


A menopause after the age of 55 increased the risk of diabetes by 12%.


In the UK, the average age at which a woman has her final menstrual period is 51.

Dr Erin LeBlanc, from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in the US, said: “Our study suggests the optimal window for menopause and diabetes risk is between the ages of 45 and 55.


“Women who start menopause before or after that window should be aware that they are at higher risk and should be especially vigilant about reducing obesity, eating a healthy diet and exercising. These lifestyle changes will help to reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes.”


After menopause, levels of the hormone oestrogen decline and this has been linked to increased body fat and appetite, slower metabolism and higher blood sugar.


While previous research has associated early menopause with an increased risk of diabetes, the new findings are the first to show that the condition is also linked to later menopause.


The new study, reported in the journal Menopause, also found an association between the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and the length of a woman’s “lifetime reproductive cycle” – the time span between her first and last period.


Women with a lifetime reproductive cycle of less than 30 years were 37% more likely to develop diabetes than those with “medium length” cycles of 36 to 40 years, the study found.


Long reproductive cycles of more than 45 years were associated with a 23% increased risk of diabetes.


The study formed part of the Women’s Health Initiative, a large US investigation of postmenopausal women focusing on the prevention of heart disease, bone fractures, and breast and bowel cancer.

In 2016, an estimated 1,685,21o new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. and 595,690 people will die from this devastating diagnosis. (1)  On February 13, 2015, the American Cancer Society recommended that cancer survivors should follow “prudent diets.”  Specifically, they recommend a plant-based diet that is high in fruits, vegetables, unrefined grains and low in red and processed meats, refined grains and sugars.  (2)

Harvard Medical School has furthered these recommendations with their Harvard Healthy Eating plan.  They report that the latest scientific evidence shows that a plant-based diet lowers the risk of weight gain and chronic diseases.  Experts believe that these diets increase the nutrient intake for both children and adult and limit “empty calorie” intake.  Studies show that a plant-based diet offers protection against coronary heart disease, metabolic syndrome risk factors, cancer, obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular mortality. Not all plant-based diet require complete elimination of animal products


Plant-based diets are high in complex carbohydrates, omega-6 fatty acids, dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, and antioxidants such as carotenoids and folic acid.  Diets such as the Ornish Diet, The 80-10-10 Diet, vegan diet, vegetarian diet, the DASH Diet and Mediterranean Diet are all considered to be plant-based diets.  While some of these diets allow some meat, fish and animal products, these can also be eliminated for a completely plant-based diet.  (3)

Endoderm cells are a type of cell found in the early embryo, and which eventually mature into the body’s major organs – including the pancreas. “Using another chemical cocktail, we then transformed these endoderm-like cells into cells that mimicked early pancreas-like cells, which we called PPLCs,” said the Gladstone postdoctoral scholar Ke Li, the paper’s lead author. “Our initial goal was to see whether we could coax these PPLCs to mature into cells that, like ß-cells, respond to the correct chemical signals and – most importantly – secrete insulin. And our initial experiments, performed in a petri dish, revealed that they did.”


The team then injected these cells into mice that had been genetically modified to have high glucose levels, mimicking the type 1 diabetes condition in humans.


“Importantly, just one week post-transplant, the animals’ glucose levels started to decrease, gradually approaching normal levels,” said Li. “And when we removed the transplanted cells, we saw an immediate glucose spike, revealing a direct link between the transplantation of the PPLCs and reduced hyperglycemia [high glucose level].”


Eight weeks after the transplantation, the scientists found that the pancreas-like cells had turned into the real thing – fully functional insulin-secreting ß-cells had developed in the mice.
